“Give me 24 hours.” The full breakdown.
Tomorrow never brings new information. It only brings doubt. Here is the exact 4-step sequence I use when a prospect wants to sleep on it, including what to say at each step.
Agree first. The moment you push back, they defend their position. The moment you agree, they lower their guard.
- Step 1
Agree
“Of course, take the time. Can I ask one thing first?”
- Why it works
- You remove the fight. Asking permission keeps them in control, which makes them answer honestly.
- Step 2
Ask the time question
“What will you know tomorrow that you don't know right now?”
- Why it works
- There's rarely a real answer. They realise “time” isn't the issue, and usually say what is.
- Listen for
- “I want to be sure it's the right decision.” That means there's an unspoken doubt.
- Step 3
Find the real concern
“Makes sense. What would make it the right decision for you?”
- Why it works
- They define the condition. Now you're solving their criterion, not guessing.
- Listen for
- Trust, money, partner, or fear of failing again. Each needs a different answer.
- Step 4
Solve it now
“So it's not really about time. It's about [their concern]. Let's talk about that now, while I'm here to answer it.”
- Why it works
- You name it in their words and handle it on the call, instead of letting it grow overnight.
- If they still want time
- Book a fixed 15-minute follow-up within 24 hours, before you hang up. Never “just call me back”.
